SolarCity, a California company, has announced that it is expanding its business reach into the area of home energy efficiency.
The company specializes in the design, financing, installation and monitoring of solar power arrays, with an eye on helping customers save money while helping the environment at the same time. The company offers SolarLease and Commercial Power Purchase Agreement options, among other services, to more than 1,000 communities throughout the U.S. West.
According to SolarCity, it will acquire the assets of Building Solutions, which provides energy efficient services and technology.
"We've been in the business of enabling customers to save money by generating clean energy, and now we can help customers save more money by using less energy," said Peter Rive, co-founder and chief operating officer of SolarCity. "Our new services will help customers reduce their total energy bills by addressing natural gas usage as well as electricity."
Among the services that SolarCity will now be offering are heating, cooling and lighting options, as well as water heating and duct and building envelope sealing. Demand for such services has been strong in the past couple of years with help from state and federal tax incentives.
