Upgrades in photovoltaic technology makes it more attractive

Konarka Technologies recently announced it exhibiting its design-friendly photovoltaic panels at the upcoming Build Boston 2011 tradeshow and conference, which will include showcases from more than 14,000 architects, engineers and other entities in attendance.
"The design and construction market demands photovoltaic material that delivers various design options and flexible forms," said Ken McCauley, vice president of sales, marketing and business development at Konarka. "Available in colors and various sizes, Konarka's photovoltaic film gives architects superior design latitude."
Konarka's Power Plastic solar panels are thin, lightweight, transparent and flexible, created specifically for creative architects who look to use alternative options in their sustainable designs.
Another advancement in technology regarding photovoltaic systems comes from engineering researchers at the University of Arkansas who are developing an anti-icing system that could make air runways safer.
The photovoltaic system would send energy to a concrete slab that would function as a surface overlay on runways, which would maintain energy on the slabs to reduce the accumulation of snow and ice.
