Envision Solar recently participated in a ribbon[-]cutting ceremony that celebrated the unveiling of a new Solar Tree structure installation at General Motor's Warren, Michigan, facility, which will be able to shade and charge six electric vehicles, as well as provide power to the facility.

"Our Solar Tree structures can be installed in any location while our unique tracking solution allows us to always get the most from the sun," said Desmond Wheatley, president and CEO of Envision Solar. "As such[,] they are the perfect visible embodiment of GM and its dealerships' commitment to the environment and the future of electric and other highly[-]efficient vehicles."

The Solar Tree structure incorporated Envision's CleanCharge "column-integrated" electric vehicle charging stations and Envision's EnvisionTrak multi-axis solar technology, which can increase the efficiency of installation by approximately 25 percent.

According to Rob Threlkeld, global manager of renewable energy for GM, using Envision's Solar Tree showcases GM's commitment to reducing its environmental impact.

Electric vehicles that can utilize solar car charging stations are becoming more popular across the United States. According Alternative Energy Magazine, EV's such as the Nissan Leaf and Chevy Volt are being purchased more often because they offer a much higher MPG than traditional vehicles.
