Anabelle Candy Company in Hayward, California, recently announced installation is complete on its new solar system, which is expected to offset 90 percent of the company's energy output and save it more than $136,000 in its first year of operation.
"We at Annabelle’s are proud to be one of the first manufacturing plants in the area to bring solar energy to our facilities,” said Susan Gamson Karl, president and CEO. “With the financial challenges we currently face in this economic environment, we feel fortunate to have found a way to offset our operating costs and help conserve our precious resources, while continuing to provide jobs for our wonderful employees."
The solar system consists of 1,424 SunPower 308W Modules and SunPower PowerGuard Solar Roof Tiles, which will protect Annabelle’s roofing from harsh weather, UV exposure and thermal cycling.
The new system is expected to output more than 438 kilowatts of solar energy, which equals 646,855 kilowatt-hours of renewable energy each year.
According to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune in California, more solar energy installations are on the way in the state. Baldwin Park recently completed a 110-photovoltaic solar panel power system at the Esther Snyder Community Center, and Bassett Unified School District recently began a 1.35 megawatt solar project that will power five school sites and the district office.
