The History of Natural Renewable Energy Day (March 21, 2023)

Natural Renewable Energy Day takes place every year on the 21st of March and is designed to highlight the issues that exist with the overuse of fossil fuels while serving as a campaign to raise awareness of the benefits that come from the use of renewable energy sources.

When did Renewable Energy Day begin?

The first Natural Renewable Energy Day took place on the 21st of March 2004. March 21 was chosen as the date in order to increase awareness of the importance of renewable energy sources and promote natural energy sources due to the dangerous depletion of the Earth’s resources. Viable alternatives such as biogas, hydroelectric power, solar energy and wind energy can make a big difference.

Renewable energy sources are those that are produced by natural sources, with examples including the likes of geothermal heat, rain, sunlight, tides and wind. Natural processes that are constantly replenished are responsible for the creation of this energy, and in 2011 an unprecedented milestone was achieved by it accounting for as much as 11% of all national energy production in the United States.

It is unsustainable to continue to be dependent on coal, natural gas and oil. Fossil fuel reserves are declining and could make it difficult to meet future energy needs, while the burning of fossil fuels causes damage to natural ecosystems and influences climate change.

Natural Renewable Energy Day helps to spearhead the call for the curbing of dependence on fossil fuels and the avoidance of dangerous carbon dioxide emissions. Changing to renewable alternatives instead of fossil fuels will help to satisfy the need for energy for future generations while also improving the health of our planet.

Observing Natural Renewable Energy Day

The first step in observing Natural Renewable Energy Day is to actually get a solar panel. This is an obvious and common step to take for those interested in renewable energy, with solar panels converting the energy of the Sun into renewable electricity.

Another way to observe and honor Natural Renewable Energy Day is to educate others about how important it is to use renewable energy in all areas of life. Spread information either with word of mouth or by posting articles offering information about the topic on social media.

It is also a good idea to observe Natural Renewable Energy Day by organizing various different types of programs such as competitions, discussions and workshops.

One surprising fact is that just one hour of focused solar energy is actually capable of providing enough power for the entire planet for a full year.

Why Natural Renewable Energy Day is important

There are a number of reasons as to why Natural Renewable Energy Day is very important. One good reason is that it helps to create awareness of energy conservation, with the event intended to assist with the promotion and advocacy of having energy conservation become a global concern. The day also plays an important part in environmental conservation and to encourage clean energy for a cleaner future.
